We went to Asheville for a few days this week. It was Ashley’s first trip to the mountains and she enjoyed being away from home. I was working at a Convention so we got to stay at the Grove Park Inn. It was a nice getaway. Ashley spent lots of quality time with Van since I was working. I walked into the room the first night and he was sitting on the bed with her combing her hair (he had just given her a bath). It was so sweet! They really bonded during the trip. He walked with her around the resort, sat on the front porch with her in the rocking chairs to watch the newly arriving guests, and they even went to Bojangles one morning while I was working. Ashley liked dancing in the hallways and waving to the other hotel guests.
The weather was nice. It was in the 80′s, which is hot to the locals. But to us it felt great compared to the 105 heat index we had been dealing with around here. It even rained one day.
All in all, it was a great little mini-vacation (3 days/2 nights). Ashley did great during the car ride there and back. She spent lots of time with Van and I worked and made a little extra money. The only downfall to the trip was when Ashley fell off our bed early Tuesday morning. She wouldn’t sleep in her pack-n-play so we gave in and let her in bed with us (FIRST time she has ever slept in bed with us). We basically slept with one eye open. Had her in between us on the bed, and always made sure she was in the middle. We were being so careful to watch her throughout the whole night and then I guess we both finally dozed off around 6:30AM and shortly thereafter awoke to a loud “thud” and cries from Ashley. She had scooted to the end of the bed and rolled right off! Aside from a hurt lip, she was fine, but really shaken up. Can you imagine how scary that must have been for her? To be in a dead sleep, free fall to the floor and land on your face? Geesh! Poor thing; my heart just sank. I felt so bad and kicked myself for not doing a better job at watching her. She’s fine now. It just didn’t make for the greatest ending to our trip. Needless to say we all slept very well in our own beds when we got home!
