Sleepover with Nickel

Toby and Blake’s friend, Nickel, came over this weekend.  Nickel’s parents went to a wedding in Charlotte on Saturday and spent the night there.  So Nickel spent the night with us.

Watching Ashley interact with other animals, especially dogs, truly amazes me.  I’ve never seen an 18-month old be so gentle and respectful of animals.  The first thing she did with Nickel was to stick her hand out slowly for Nickel to sniff her.  Then she proceeded to calmly pet her head.  I just love the way she treats dogs, not only her own, but others too.  I am so impressed by how “grown up” she is when interacting with them.  She’s not loud or jumpy or overly excited.  She is always calm and reaches out slowly.  I’ve taught her to be gentle and pet the dogs; not hit.  So that’s what she does.  She will even “pet” my cheek to show her affection towards me.  It is so sweet!  Oh, and she loves to give the dogs kisses, too.

Ashley has such a big heart and is so caring, not only towards people but animals, too.  It’s really neat seeing her develop in this way.  I am very proud of the little girl she has become!

That is one of the biggest benefits of your kids growing up with animals. I see it with Emma too. While some kids are terrified of animals, Emma would rather love on and kiss a dog instead of a human. So sweet :)

She is an amazing little girl, but I think that's only because she has two amazing parents who have nurtured her in such incredible ways. Oh Lord, please let Brody and her marry one day. I would LOVE to have her as a daughter-in-law. Oh, am I getting too ahead of myself here? :)
