For those of you that read my blog just for the pictures (Pat!), sorry but this may be a boring post for you. I just want to do a quick update for my baby blog so I can remember these times…
Ashley had 2 new foods this weekend. Corn puddin’ and baked beans. She loved them both, but the corn puddin’ especially! She really is a good eater with new things. She may make a funny face, but at least she will try it. And it just so happened that she really liked the corn puddin’. It was a first for me too, and I must say it was pretty tasty. She also liked baked beans. It’s funny watching her pick things up with her little fingers. She seems so polite and precise about it. She’ll pick up a bean with her thumb and forefinger and her other fingers will be up in the air. It’s really cute! You almost feel bad for her though when it’s slippery because if she squeezes too hard the bean will slip out before it makes it in her mouth!
Also, since Mom and Dad were here this week they asked if we wanted to go out on a date and they would babysit for us. Okay, Mom didn’t really “ask” per-say, she basically kicked us out the door and told us we were going! I’m fine with going to dinner and leaving her for a couple of hours. But this time we went to dinner and a movie which meant Mom and Dad were going to have to give Ashley a bath and put her to bed. This was a really big deal for me because as many of you know, I am still nursing Ashley. As part of our routine, I nurse her before she goes to bed each night. Thus, I have been the only one to put her to bed every single night of her life. But since Ashley is 3 weeks away from being a year old, I knew I was going to have to begin weaning her soon. It’s just such a big leap for me. And is a step I’ve been dreading. I think it’s as much of a “crutch” for me as it is for Ashley. So this was going to be a good experiment to see if we could both do it.
And what do you know? VOILA…success! Van and I returned home around 10:30. Ashley had been in bed since 8:30. So not only did she go to bed just fine without me, she even went to bed early! Mom and Dad said she was a perfect little angel! As for me, well I did not call them one time to check in. I may have put my phone on vibrate and had it in my lap during the movie just in case they called, but I never called them. So we both passed the test with flying colors! And now I know it can be done, which should ease my anxiety about the big transition. Thanks Mom, Dad and Van for the encouragement
If you must have a picture, here’s an oldie but goodie!

I'm so excited you had a date night with Van and that both you and Ashley passed the night with flying colors. That's amazing! Yay for a great night!
