The Great Diaper Debate

There comes a time in every Mom’s life when we ponder about which diapers are best.  Have ever you stood in the diaper aisle overwhelmed by all of the choices?  You’ve got Pampers, Huggies, Luvs, and the various generic brands.  Does one brand function better than the next?

I’ve always used Pampers.  Ashley started out with the Pampers Swaddlers from Day 1.  I loved the Swaddlers because they were soft and never leaked.  We used those for several months, then when Ashley moved up to a Size 2, we switched to the Pampers Baby Dry.  Now I’m at the point where I’m wondering if there is another, cheaper brand that is comparable to the Pampers.  I hate paying extra for the name if I can get other diapers that are just as good.

Since we are members at BJs, I thought I would try their store brand, Berkely and Jenson.  I bought a box of 160 size 3 diapers for $18.99 (that’s about 12 cents per diaper) .  That was including the $6 off coupon I had.  Original price is $24.99.  A box of Pampers Baby Dry Size 3 will cost you $37.99 for a box of 204 (that’s about 19 cents per diaper).

We’ve been using the BJs generic brand for a couple of weeks now, with no leaks.  I am quite happy with them and there really isn’t much of a difference in looking at the diapers.  They have similar absorption zones, elasticity, etc.  But the BJs ones do seem to fit Ashley a little bit bigger.  The BJs diaper is a tad longer and the sides are real stretchy, so she has room to move and grow in them.

So for the money I saved, it was worth the switch to the Berkley and Jensen diapers.  Next up will be a test with Huggies.  I tried Huggies when Ashley was a newborn and didn’t like them because they leaked.  But I was recently given a bunch of Huggies in a size 4 (thanks Grandma Murray!), for when Ashley moves up a size.  So I will try them again and hopefully they’ll work better this time.  We shall see!

Every time Emma moved up a size I would try out all the different brands. EVERY single time I would go back to the Pampers Cruisers....LOVED those. Until I tried the Target brand and liked those almost as much as the cruisers. Used those for a while until Emma got into a size 6. I tried all the others like usual and ended up LOVING the Luvs.....I hated them up until size 6. So...all that to say, it is totally worth trying others especially if they are cheaper when they go up a size :) Plus, Luvs have that great baby smell...and are very inexpensive.

Great post! Brody has always used Pampers as well. We've tried Huggies, but always go back to Pampers. We are also members at BJ's, so I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

I used Pampers as well and then ended up switching to Luvs when Teo hit size 4. I like them and do not have problems. The onlything I use Huggies for is their overnight diapers.
