Don't Blink

Yesterday was my birthday.  I turned the big 3-0!  It’s hard to believe I’m not in my twenties anymore.  Heck, it’s hard to believe I’m married, have a baby, and no longer playing basketball in the driveway with my Dad!  Turning 30 really makes me reflect on life.  How precious it is, how fast it goes by.  It’s funny that when I was little all I could do was think of the future.  I couldn’t wait to get to turn 10, 13, 16.  Become a teenager, drive a car, go to college.  Then I dreamed of getting married and having kids.  I rushed life along.  Always thinking of tomorrow and wanting to get to the next chapter. Now I just wish it would slow down.  Looking back, life seems to have gone by so fast.  Kenny Chesney said it best…

Don’t blink
Just like that you’re six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you’re twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don’t blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your “better half”
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you’re praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think
So don’t blink

I’m really looking forward to the next 30 years.  Watching Ashley grow up and creating wonderful childhood memories for her, like I had for mine.  This is a year of “firsts” and it’s kind of sad that we’ve already had some and won’t get them back.  Ashley has already had her first bath, first car ride, first stroller ride, first smile, first Halloween, first dinner out as a family, Van has fed her for the first time.  And soon we are going to have her first Thanksgiving and first Christmas.  So I’m going to try not to blink.  I don’t want to miss a minute of this wonderful life God has blessed me with.  I look forward to growing old with Van and being a Mom to Ashley.  Just remember when you’re spending time with your family during the upcoming holidays, it’ll go by faster than you realize.  Relish every moment you have with your loved ones.  Life goes by too fast.  So don’t blink.
