4 Weeks Old

Ashley is 4 weeks old today.  Well, she will be at 5:14 p.m.  I’ve been thinking about how to calculate her age – like by month.  I would think that 4 weeks old = 1 month.  But today is Nov. 9th.  So technically, she really won’t be a month old until Thursday (Nov. 12th).  Isn’t that strange?  She can be 4 weeks old but still not really a month old yet.  Maybe I’m thinking too much into it…

Ashley had her first bath last week.  That was so much fun!  I was a little nervous about what to do, water temperature, etc.  We put her little tub in the kitchen sink.  She was so cute.  When we first put her in it, she threw her hands up in the air.  I guess it can be a little shocking to be naked and submerged in water for the first time.  She did really good though.  Didn’t cry one bit.  She did stare at us, like “What are you doing to me?”.  Afterwards, we put her in a hooded towel.  It was so cute!  I kept her wrapped up in the towel for a while so she could dry off and stay warm.  I handed her off to Van and went upstairs.  When I came down he asked if I had put a diaper on her and I told him no.  He then said the funniest thing “She’s like a monkey, you gotta keep a diaper on her!”.  I guess he had a good point :)

Mom and Dad came to visit  this weekend.  They watched Ashley for us Saturday night so Van and I could go out to dinner.  It’s quite a process for me to get out of the house and we are on a strict time limit (since Ashley eats every 2-3 hours).  It’s a big deal for me to leave, and when I do, I have to use my time wisely.  So Van and I went to one of our favorite restaurants, Pipers Tavern, for an early dinner and then to Goodberry’s for dessert.  It was so much fun!  And really nice to get away for a bit.

I took her for a walk today all by myself!  That was a big step for me.  I did good (i.e. she didn’t fall out!) and we had a wonderful time in this beautiful weather.  I even worked up a sweat.  She just slept the entire time, but I think she enjoyed the fresh air.  I know I did!

Ashley has her one-month checkup on Friday.  I’m curious to see how much weight she has gained.  I think she may be getting another round of the Hep B vaccine, too.  She got her first one while in the hospital.  Her development is really progressing this week.  She is awake more now and likes to be out of her pack-n-play and/or crib when she is awake.  She enjoys being held and sitting in her bouncy chair.  She continues to make lots of funny faces and is smiling more and more everyday!
