Great news this week! Not only have I made it to the magic number of 37 weeks (so now she’s technically considered full-term) but my blood pressure has gone down! Yay!!
I’ve been sick since last Thursday, so going on a week now. Congestion, cough, sinus pressure, all the yucky stuff. Can barely even sleep at night because I can’t breathe. So we went to the doctor on Monday for my usual check-up. The farthest thing from my mind was my blood pressure being down. I just knew they were going to schedule an induction. And I wasn’t sure if it would be even more of an emergency with me being sick. But nope. Blood pressure was way down. Like the lowest it’s been the entire pregnancy. AND I lost a pound because the swelling had gone down too. Unbelievable; but I’ll take it!
As for me being sick, I didn’t have a fever or anything so the doctor said I probably just contracted some of the “crud” that’s going around. She said there’s all sorts of stuff going around now with the weather changing and people getting sick. They told me I could take Sudafed (which I had been to no avail), use a nasal spray, and Vick’s Vapor Rub. I started using the Vick’s that night and it is helping me to sleep better. I can finally breathe out of one nostril today so I think it’s getting out of my system. The doc said it would just take a while for my body to fight it off. It’s so weird to me though because I NEVER get sick. My immune system is normally incredibly strong. I’m always the “carrier”; the one to get Van sick and not myself. So I’m not used to feeling like this. But with the pregnancy, my immune system is suppressed so it can’t fight it like it used to. Fine by me though if that’s what is making my blood pressure go down. Since I haven’t been feeling well, I’ve been resting more than normal. And I didn’t go to work for 2 days. So I’m sure that helped too. Regardless, the point is that my blood pressure went DOWN! Wahoo! So since I was looking good, they didn’t schedule an induction. I go back again next week and we’ll see how it is then. Hopefully I can keep it down for the remainder of the pregnancy.
A neat thing that’s been happening lately is that Lil’ Pumpkin has been getting the hiccups. It’s so cute! She got them last week while I was at home. And then another night she got them again and Van could feel them. It feels just like the hiccups we would get. Like a rhythm – hiccup, hiccup, hiccup. And it lasted for a good minute or two. Poor thing!
Yesterday, Van’s work threw us a baby shower. It was really sweet! They got a cake from Edible Art, so not only was it adorable but it tasted really good too! They all pitched in and got us a Baby Einstein Jumper, audio and video monitor system, receiving blankets, socks, and a Target gift card. It was really nice of them and we had a great time. Finally, a baby shower that Van could be a part of!
